Many people suffer with low self-esteem or a negative self-image. In fact, around 85% of the world’s population has had self-esteem issues throughout their lives, which is a huge percentage of us. Finding your confidence can be very difficult, as it is difficult to change lifelong thinking patterns and habits. This is especially true if you’ve suffered from life challenges lately, such as relationship issues, employment problems, or significant grief and loss.
However, you don’t have to suffer with low self-esteem forever. Taking small steps to reprogram your brain and improve your confidence every day can make you feel much better about yourself. Here are all the ways in which you can invest in your confidence, every single day.
Stay Present
One of the best ways in which you can improve your confidence is to stay present in the moment, and truly interact with the people around you. When we are stuck in our minds thinking negatively about ourselves, we can’t truly build positive connections. We also don’t experience life to its full potential, leaving us to feel trapped and bored. Actively working to challenge your negative thoughts, trying new experiences and staying in contact with loved ones are all great ways to stay present and connected with everyday life.
Have A Healthy Lifestyle
Many people suffer from self-esteem issues because they don’t invest in having a healthy lifestyle. Exercising regularly and eating healthy, nutritious food can improve your general well-being and health, making it easier for you to have great mental health. It may also improve your confidence, as you will overall feel more healthy. Don’t make your healthy lifestyle about counting calories and over-exercising – this can make you feel worse, and usually doesn’t work. However, eating nourishing foods that fuel your mind, and moving your body in a way that makes you feel happy can massively improve your self-esteem.
Build Your Relationships
Having strong connections with others is one of the best ways we can improve our mental health – humans need positive and strong connections to others in order to thrive. Loneliness is a killer and can be significantly detrimental to your confidence. Make sure to keep up with your important relationships – spend time with your friends and family, and talk to them often. They can help you with your mental health and can help you talk through your anxieties and doubts.
Treat Yourself Like A Friend
One of the major causes of low self-esteem is negative self-talk and a negative inner voice. When you catch your brain thinking these negative thoughts about yourself, treat yourself like a friend. Would you say these things about your best friend, or allow them to talk to themselves that way? Exactly – so treat yourself like a friend. When you catch yourself putting yourself down or criticising yourself harshly, re-think. Instead, talk to yourself like a friend – you may notice your everyday self-esteem starting to increase!
Say Affirmations To Yourself
Many people now talk about how affirmations can be one of the best ways to improve negative mental health. Affirmations often involve saying certain phrases out loud to yourself, such as ‘I am successful’ ‘I am powerful’ and ‘I am strong.’ By saying these phrases out loud, you are affirming your positive traits and making them into a statement, which can help you re-think how you see yourself. Many people find that saying affirmations can really improve your mental health, and could help you re-wire your brain against negative thought patterns. Look for affirmations that target your insecurities, so you can fight against your persistent negative thoughts.
Invest In Yourself
When you prioritize and invest in yourself, your self-image and comfort, you will have better self-esteem. By looking after yourself and treating yourself, you will make yourself a priority, which can help you treat feelings of inferiority. There are many things you can do to invest in yourself – you can invest in your health to improve your everyday life. You can do this by investing in great food so you can eat well, or blackout curtains to improve your sleep hygiene. Investing in your health is a great way to make your body and brain feel good. If you have problems with your self-image, you could invest in a new haircut or going-out clothes that can give your confidence a boost.
Remember Your Achievements…
… and forgive your failures. One of the main reasons why people suffer with low self-esteem is that they dwell too much on the natural failures everyone experiences in life. Instead of dwelling on your mistakes and thinking about where you went wrong, you should celebrate the achievements that you’ve enjoyed throughout your life. Failure isn’t something to punish yourself over – you should learn from the experience. Whenever you feel yourself dwelling on your failures, instead celebrate your achievements.
A lack of self-esteem is one of the major issues that affect most of us worldwide. If you’re looking to start investing in your confidence every day, give some of these tips and tricks a try.
Investing in your self-esteem can make you much happier every day and can result in you trying new things, having new experiences and strengthening your relationships. Start investing in your self-esteem today!
